There is at least one moment in a mans life, when, regardless of his liberty of wearing anything he likes at his job, or his cozy or sport style, he must get out of the jeans, the printed t-shirts and wear a ceremonial suit.
The tuxedo is the symbol of male elegance, a timeless option. The name comes from the occasion when it was worn. The gentlemen wore it after breakfast, when they would retire for a smoke. Thus, the jacket received the name smoking jacket. A distinctive feature is the tuxedo with satin lapels. When smoking cigar, it was considered indecent to shake the ash, so a column of ash could fall any minute. Therefore, the ash often falls on the suit. With those satin lapels on the tuxedo ashes can be shaken easily, leaving no trace.
Now the British call it dinner jacket or black tie (from the color of the bow).
Like all elegant outfits, the tuxedo jacket must be always worn, because taking it off and continue celebrating without it is often considered an ignorance of the rules of etiquette. If you want to wear a coat, it should be black, accompanied by a white scarf and a hat. When not sitting down, the jacket is worn unbuttoned, and when sitting down the jacket must be buttoned, so that when standing up again, to unbutton the jacket again.
The tuxedo became a fashionable garment in England in the late nineteenth century. It is formed of a tuxedo jacket with silk facings (grosgrain or satin) on peak lapels or shawl collar, Tuxedo Pants (with silk braids that match the lapels) and a Tuxedo Vest. The tuxedo is mostly black, but can be made in other colors too. It is known as well the white summer tuxedo.
The hem line of the trousers must be above the heel and the length of the jacket has to reach the shirt in the back. These latest considerations are not mandatory, but give a touch of elegance to the garment.
The tuxedo jacket it is worn with a simple white shirt with a plastron and a collar for the black bow tie, or with a shirt with hidden buttons or with button-type buttons, cuff for the cufflinks and a collar (plain or for the bow tie). For a bigger tinge of ceremony you can add a silk waist belt or a belt and of course lacquer shoes. The color of the bow tie shouldnt necessary be black or red, you can match it with your partners dress or you can choose an intense contrast for a nonconformist look.
Most men dont wear a tuxedo very often, thats why many of them prefer to rent the suit. There are a lot of shops or sites that help you rent the perfect tuxedo for any event you will attend to. Also, you can buy one made especially for you and later you can remove the satin lapels and put other ones from the same fabric as the rest of the jacket and wear it like a usual suit.
Anyway, the tuxedo is the best choice for a special evening, it will give you the elegance you need.
